If expecting a specific culture when you download bollywood movies, you may get quite a surprise. The movies are very similar to other International films. So, what is the difference?

Personally, I have never heard of bollywood movies until recently. Curious and always searching for answers, I go to a related site and click on a movie. Somewhat intimidated, I had no idea what to expect. I was afraid I might have accidentally clicked on an adult content site, and I know I do not want to watch that kind of movie.

To my surprise, I see a film in English with no subtitles. Plus, the characters look British. Now, I am even more confused. I had the impression that the movies are supposed to be Indian. So, I went to Wikipedia.Org for some information.

Bollywood is a Hindi film industry based in Mumbai. Originally established to present new ideas and new films, the massive industry soon ran out of original entertainment ideas. Not to be discouraged, the company begins remaking old English films. Then, the search for more material eventually fanned out to other International film industries.

Unfortunately, the plan is not without difficulty. In order not to get in trouble for copyright infringement, producers have to get permission to remake the original film. Even the name Bollywood is simply a rhyming rendition of Hollywood.

So, my question is: why download bollywood movies, if a person can enjoy the original version. To the Indian community the answer may be very simple-the actors. While in no way prejudiced, most people naturally enjoy watching actors from their own backyard. Plus, the industry is a source of income for Indian people who want to make a living by acting and becoming stars of the big screen.

In short, when you download bollywood movies, you may see little difference, other than the actors being of Indian decent. The scripts may be virtually the same, and even the name is the Hindi version of Hollywood. But, for a change and to satisfy a little curiosity, you may want to check out the flicks, and see if you recognize any of the plots.
