This year, you decided to get hip with all of the latest gadgets and high tech stuff. Your daughter is getting an iPod. Your son is getting a new cell phone that costs as much as the mortgage. Your wife is getting a navigational system for her vehicle, even. You thought you had it all figured out, until someone mentioned streaming movies.
Now what are those you wonder. You know what movie torrents are, you know where you can download movies. But streaming movies, this is a new one.
A streaming movie is simply a movie that plays directly from a website from their own platform viewer ad you watch it on your screen. You do not download anything to your computer. No file is saved on your system.
The good thing about streaming movies, is that you don’t need to worry about them taking up a lot of space on your hard drive. The host website stores all of the files for the movies and the files for the software that shows the movie. You can also go to any website that offers streaming movies and watch one any time. No worrying about store hours, returning movies or late fees. Whenever. Wherever.
There are a few minor problems with streaming videos, however. One, since it is saving you space by watching from the site, you will only get to watch it once. Or go back to the site and click the link to view it again. Two, you will need a high-speed internet connection to watch it. If you are out in the woods camping and have electricity to the computer doesn’t mean you can watch it. The internet connection needs to be strong and fast. Third, you will need a system that is compatible with the website system to view the movie. Depending on what software they use, you might also need a copy in order to view movies. For example Quick Time requires you to have an updated copy on your system (which should be free to download) in order to watch streaming movies.
Even though there are a couple of downfalls with watching streaming movies, they are very popular. And they are a great alternative to video store rentals, with just as many options as there would be in a store. Actually, probably more since they won’t ever run out!
