I think Amityville Horror was pretty scarry for me. I know the Excorsist in its days was considered really scarry. I remember when my dad saw it, they handed out barf bags at the movie entrance, and he was really nervous, but when he said he saw it, he laughed!!

I think it is considered really scarry because it is based on religion, and the fear of being posessed by the devil himself scares the catholic based relgion or anyone that has strong religious beliefs.

I myself like the ghost scarry movies, not the blood and gore kind.

The original Nightmare on Elm Street is still scary to me. When someone can kill you in your dreams, you know your chances of survival aren't that great at all. Unlike most horror movie characters, he hits where everyone has to go sooner or later, to sleep.

When I was younger, The Amityville Horror was scary but The Night of The Living Dead scared me the most though. Now, I would have to say the remake of The House On Haunted Hill. There were some truely scary special effects in that movie! The Exorcist never scared me, not even as a child but it did disgust me.

I also like scary movies and a couple of these did scare the heck out of me, did anyone see wrong turn2 I thought that was scary and very jumping but mostly sick. and how about the missing that movie was also awesome did anyone watch the missing and what about one missed call. one missed call was ok but not as scary as I thought it would be. :)

It's a good list with several very good horror movies in it, but I feel like a couple of them are out of place in the list, such as Jaws. Jaws definitely doesn't compare to movies like 28 Days Later, Children of the Corn, or Nightmare on Elm Street.

I have to say that the scariest movie I ever saw was Helter Skelter. Scared to death! I think Poltergeist and The Omen are also super scary. I disagree with Gremlins though. That was not scary. It was a cute movie. Oh and The Texas Chainsaw Masacare was wicked scary.

I would have to say Thirteen Ghosts scared the hell out of my when I was a child. Another movie that comes to mind is Cabin Fever, It wasn't really scary, but it did have me paranoid for about four weeks.

I think that horror films that are being made nowadays aren't as scary as the horror films in the past such as The Exorcist. I appreciate suspense/thriller films more than I do contemporary horror films. I like The Gathering a lot.

there are not too many scary movies anymore. i think that people are use to seeing the blood and gore and just dont care. any ways. as for the exorist- it was based on a true event! that is what makes it so dam frightening. as for the rest i would have moved polerguist up one or two notches since that movie still scared the crap out of me. i hate clowns because of that movie.
but the house on haunted hill- (latest one) i thought it started off pretty great but lame ending. seems to be a reacurring thing to go all out just to be dispointed with a poof.
