Google's YouTube has spawned a series of video sites which host millions and millions of short video clips averaging a few minutes. Pay per view sites are also available, where prices range between $ 4-15 for each movie download, apart from public domain sites for movies whose copyright has expired.

Stage6 replacement?

Does anyone remember Stage6? It was DivX's official video hosting site and all your videos were converted to DivX. There were thousands of full lengths, TV shows, documentaries and everything. But then they shut it down. So has anyone heard of a replacement? I'm sure there'd be a huge market for a DivX-based video site - so there must be something. The best thing of all (apart from being in DivX and high quality) was that they allowed you to download files without having to use a program like Keepvid, TubeTV, etc. You just had to click "download". Now if only someone emulated that...

I really love "Stage6"....In other words, i became a savvy to that site.... There is no replacement for that site....

I tried VEOH and not exactly happy with the results either. Found Vimeo a better solution. They are also not without restrictions as they allow just 500mb upload per week. I’m sure this it to prevent full length movies from being uploaded, but it does limit large HD files as well

Like others, you can upload and download .DivX files, but they stream Flash. On the positive side, they also have an HD channel that does quite a nice job.

I don’t think there is anything that compares with Stage6. Great idea while it lasted and maybe something will be along to replace it once some file sharing entrepreneur wakes up and realize the hole created by Stage6 shutting down. And if managed properly, it could be a major money maker.

Stage6 was one of the best movie sharing sites ever, it's too bad that it was shut down... :(

Veoh is an okay site. The size limit on uploaded files makes it impossible to find truly high quality material, though.

I miss Stage6 very badly. It was one of the best, if not the best high quality video site out there. I am hoping someone will come fill the void soon. I am hoping someone will share a site that is similar that we all can use or maybe someone will step up and make the site. I am sure it would be a very popular and lucrative one.
