I assume that screenview is male. My BF loves action movies, anything with car chases, explosions, gunfire, James Bond, etc. Seems to be mostly a guy thing. Personally, I can't stand these movies (except for the occasional karate movie that actually has a little plot). I prefer comedies, but the most hyped-up ones like Knocked Up and Good Luck Chuck usually turn out to be disappointing to me. Horror movies are good, but anything with monsters, werewolves, or vampires is out. I guess I'm kind of picky, but hey, that's a girl thing.
Lol..I usually like to watch epic action movies, especially ones that have sword-fights and warrior type films. Also I'm an avid fan of horror movies of all genres that keeps me glued to the screen.
I favor the smaller Indie type movies that are big on story and character- I could care less about action and special effects unless the story requires them.
I am thinking along the lines of The Station Agent or Sling Blade- not formulaic by any means and not dependent on razzle dazzle or edgy editing. Story- in that you don't know where it is going but are sure you want to be there when it arrives. Character- compelling people who you almost develop a relationship with over the course of the film. You care what happens to them. I don't necessarily believe that story driven films have to be indies or smaller budget- thet's just the way it happen to play out in todays market. First films from many writers and directors are often projects that they have spent years developing and their heart and soul is poured into them. When they achieve some measure of success they are easily seduced by big budgets, A list stars, and hobnobbing with the Hollywood makers and shakers. And it just follows that throwing together a rock 'em sock 'em car chase explosion extravaganza is easier than another 10 years of angst driven development in terms of a follow up project. It's too bad.
My favorite kind of movies are slaptick comedies and action movies. I really enjoy Ben Stiller movies! I can't wait for the New Indiana Jones movie to come out, I hope it has a new kind of twist to the plot. Since kids I have started injoying some of the childrens movies that Disney and Pixnar have been coming out with as well.
I'm going to go with movies that have a decent plot. I can handle almost any genre, although I do have my preferences on which genres I prefer, but I'll take a movie in one of my less preferred genres with a great story than one in my preferred genre with a horrible plot.
You know, if you asked me this question 5 years ago, I'd have replied that thrillers and slasher movies were my all-time favorites. I don't know what it is lately, because now I find those movies to be disturbing and they actually turn my stomach a little bit. Wierd, huh? Now I find myself going to see more and more comedies and chick flicks.
My favorite type of movie is horror followed closely by action. I really love the older horror movies before gore became the chief selling point.
I enjoy movies like P2 or the remake of When a Stranger Calls because they build up the suspense. Thats a mark of a good movie, in my opinion.
I like epic fantasy, like Lord of The RIngs trilogy. I hear they are making the Hobbit now. I also like just plain fantasy, sci fi and some horror. I don't care much about the bloody, gory, guts all over the place horror movies.
My idea of having a good time is laughing. That is why comedies are my favorite type of movie. Other than comedies I also like a good drama that can make me really cxare about the characters involved. Whether it is a comedy or drama, the best movies are the ones that make you feel a strong emotion.
